The task for this Project was to emulate a personal favorite historical design style for the use of creating a travel poster for any chosen location.
Project Explanation
Japan: A country that is filled to the brim with both new and old blended perfectly between its bustling cities and shrines.
While centered on minimalism, I chose to demonstrate this balance through the recognizable symbol which is the Tori gate surrounded by vibrant colors.
As the land of the rising sun, I decided to create a centerpiece of the red sphere to bring attention to the country's proud heritage while also adding a red glow to draw in energetic crowds of today’s young travelers. While my color scheme is not mute as seen in many other modern-day minimalist travel posters, I chose to maintain my minimalism through the inclusion of silhouetted details and minimal color choices instead of allowing the reputation of birds and calm waves to be the only outlying details in my piece.
Poster Concepts
Beginning with my concept sketches, I chose to focus on imagery that would be recognizable worldwide. Sites such as the Tokyo sky tree and the Tori Gates were locations that stuck out as perfect matches for my project.
Final Render
While centered on minimalism, I chose to demonstrate balance through the recognizable symbol which is the Tori gate surrounded by vibrant colors.
To better connect with Japan’s native imagery, I chose to accentuate this poster's headspace with the silhouettes of Japanese water birds.
